Cultural Uses of Plants:
An Internet-based Course in Ethnobotany
Course number

BOT101

Facilitator Gabriell DeBear Paye
Institution CIEER.org

Description

The activities of this course are designed to teach you some of the ways that scientists investigate plants with the potential to discover new and helpful uses for humanity. This book also encourages you to conduct experiments on your own and assumes that you, too, may make new discoveries about a plant. Cultural Uses of Plants challenges middle- and high-school students to design and implement their own unique experiments starting from a reference point they can relate to - a useful plant in their own culture. This course is intended primarily for educators who wish to integrate ethnobotany, inquiry based science and/or multicultural studies into their curriculum. The activities in the course fulfill the National Science Education Standards. This course can be used to obtain professional development points and/or continuing education credits in many states.
